Koopa and Goomba say the hard part of this photo was holding the pose long enough for us to take a picture, as they are loving siblings and never fight.

What's Been Happening

This month's update comes from my childhood home in Springfield, VA where I'm helping out as my dad recovers from (pre-planned and successful) surgery. The end of the drum corps season was a success on all fronts and prep work is well under way for next year, so the cycle begins anew. At the time of sending, my wife will be en route to Australia for an orchid conference and accompanying tour of native orchid sites. Afterwards she'll be heading to New Zealand where I will join her so that she can remember what I look like in person and we can take a driving tour of the country, exploring both nature and Lord of the Rings sets.

Once we get back from that it will be time to get ready for auditions and fall writing projects, but I'm sure it will be that much more enjoyable for the renewed perspective (once I know what day it is).

May your masks smell pleasant and your packages arrive without incident,

Ryan

This is off track from my usual offerings in this space, but it's been a while since I've been caught off guard by a whole series of pieces of music.

This is actually the soundtrack to the video game "Sonic Frontiers" so it's 146 tracks that vary from incidental music to themes to standalone tracks, and it's not that it's necessarily groundbreaking or of a type I've never heard before... but there's something about it for me. If nothing else, I'm not getting very far in the game because I keep losing while I'm distracted by the music. Enjoy, and I apologize for the next 12 pieces I write that have elements of this while I figure out what it is that I'm responding to.

Look, Nature!

So I don't actually know what this plant is, or this moth (butterfly?), but it's pretty so here it is.

Education Notes

A happy fall season to all!. May your rehearsals be dry and pleasant, and your restaging requests minimal.
